How To Avoid High
Blood Pressure |
Doctors at the Mayo Clinic point out that people with a normal blood
pressure at age 55 still have a 90 per cent chance of developing
high blood pressure. But there is much you can do to prevent this
from happening. For instance, even a small weight loss can reduce
your blood pressure. A study has shown that for those with mildly
raised blood pressure of 120 to 139 mm Hg (systolic or upper figure)
each kilogram of weight loss leads to a decrease of one mm Hg.
Limiting sodium in the diet is also useful - keeping it to 1,500 to
2,400 mg per day may reduce systolic pressure by 2 to 8 mm Hg.
Eating a heart healthy diet with fruits, vegetables and low fat may
reduce systolic blood pressure by 8 to 14 mm Hg. Other tips include
taking more physical activity - 30 minutes a day of vigorous
exercise - and limiting alcohol to one or two drinks a day.
Specific supplements can greatly aid you in normalizing your blood
pressure. Learn which ones are effective at
