risk of
death from cancer by 50 percent.
Numerous
research reports indicate that higher
blood levels of selenium lowers
mortality from cancer including lung,
colorectal, prostate and skin cancer.
Laboratory studies indicate the
potentially beneficial role of selenium
in the management of breast cancer.
Selenium is an antioxidant and appears
work in tandem with vitamins E and C so
that they regenerate and continue to
fight free radicals.
In other
studies, Selenium supplementation was
observed to reduce the severity of
epileptic seizures and is also reported
to improve confused and depressed mental
states, mental fatigue and anxiety in
adults.
Only over
the past two decades have scientists
begun to understand just how vital of a
role selenium plays in numerous
biological functions. Perhaps its most
crucial job is to prevent disease.

What’s New
in Brain Research?
Brain
research is shedding new light on the
many ways the brain changes with age and
how these changes might be influenced.
Though genes undoubtedly play some role,
there are many things we can do
throughout life to make a difference in
brain health as we age:
Use Your
Mind
“Exercising” your mind may forestall
mental decline by strengthening
connections between brain cells.
Intellectual challenge seems to be
crucial.
Exercise
Physical activity, especially aerobic
exercise and moderately strenuous
activity, seems to help preserve mental
sharpness.
Make a
Difference
Feeling in control and believing that
what you do makes a difference in your
day-to-day life, what scientists call
“self-efficacy” is strongly associated
with successful brain aging.
Stay in
School
For reasons still unclear, how long you
stayed in school is closely linked to
lifelong brain health. Continued
learning, even outside of formal
education, may help.
Don’t Do
Drugs
Excessive alcohol (more than three
drinks a day) and illicit drug use are
hazardous to brain cells, possibly
causing irreversible damage.
Staying
Mentally Sharp at any Age.
Many of the
scourges of aging might be prevented if
we followed the old-fashioned advice of
eating right, staying active, and
getting plenty of rest. In fact, that
same advice, along with a few new
insights from aging research, can go a
long way to keeping not only our bodies
healthy as we age, but our brains as
well.
Good
mental health or “cognitive fitness,” as
some have called it, is as important to
overall quality of life as physical
health. And it demands similar
attention. That’s exactly why we
developed
Mind Matrix™
, a synergistic combination of
advanced nutrients for proper brain
function.
If you want
to gain mental sharpness and focus, more
mental energy, along with better mood
and clarity of thinking and feel razor

Get Some Sun
and Breathe Better!
New findings
indicate that vitamin D could help make
it easier to breathe. People with higher
levels of the vitamin in their systems
had better lung function.
For the
study, data was collected on over 14,000
people over a period of 6 years. Those
who had higher levels of vitamin D were
able to inhale and exhale more air. The
study also found that levels of the
vitamin were higher in men, and tended
to lessen as people aged or gained
weight.
Vitamin D
can be found in certain foods, as well
as dietary supplements, but most people
obtain it from sunlight.
Recent
studies have also suggested that Vitamin
D may help strengthen bones, prevent
some cancers, help protect against
multiple sclerosis and support 14 body
functions.

Vacation: The Amazing Health Benefits of
Meditation
Meditation
is gaining mainstream acceptance as a
beneficial preventive health program.
Once thought of as only for eastern
monks practicing in remote caves in the
mountains of India, today everyone from
busy executives to students are enjoying
the practical results of daily
meditation.
Meditation is one of the better-studied
alternative therapies, and it has been
shown to provide a wide range of health
benefits. More and more doctors and
hospitals are recommending meditation as
an effective stress buster and useful
support for patients of heart disease
and many other chronic and acute
conditions. |
