Taking a Statin Drug? What Your Doctor May not be Telling You.

By blocking the production of cholesterol in the liver, statins also block the production of Coenzyme-Q10. A Columbia University study found that CoQ10 levels were reduced by half after only 30 days of statin treatments. People who take statins need to know this, because CoQ10 is vital for many body functions and for producing muscular energy. And a lack of this nutrient can cause the heart (which is a muscle) to function improperly, resulting in heart failure.


This is not recent news. Researchers established the relationship between CoQ10 and heart health years ago. It is also well known that statins are responsible for depleting the body of CoQ10. Yet, very few doctors who prescribe these drugs make this known to their patients.

Fish and Your Health: The Way You Prepare Your Fish Can Make All the Difference


In a recent study published in the American Journal of Cardiology, researchers from the Harvard School of Public Health found that eating broiled or baked fish was associated with a reduced risk of heart failure. They also discovered that eating fried fish was associated with an increased risk.

The researchers attributed the heart benefits to the Omega-3 fatty acids in the broiled and baked fish. They also suggested that the reason fried fish doesn't have the same benefits is because most fried fish is made with lean, white varieties that have very few Omega-3s. While this is true, it's not the whole story.

What the researchers didn't report is that most fried fish is cooked in vegetable oil (in some cases, in hydrogenated vegetable oil). Vegetable oil is very high in Omega-6 fatty acids, the over-consumption of which strongly promotes heart disease.

If you enjoy fish, have it baked, broiled, poached, or steamed. If you must have it fried, cook it in coconut oil. Coconut oil is perfect for cooking at high temperatures and, unlike vegetable oil, it is a very healthy fat. And – we have said this before- choose only fish that is known to be free of mercury and other pollutants. In most cases they will not to be wild varieties versus farmed. "Why?" you may ask. Farmed fish are most often fed fish meal, which is made from species of fish that may be contaminated or toxic.

Put Out The Fire in Your Stomach


At the first sign of indigestion, you may be inclined to pop an antacid. After all, heartburn can be very uncomfortable, and TV commercials caution that acid indigestion may be a sign of a dangerous erosive esophageal condition aggravated by reflux.

But not so fast. Contrary to popular thinking, most stomach problems develop because of not enough -- rather than too much -- stomach acid.

Regardless of the T.V. hype, If you suffer from stomach upset or heartburn, don't simply cover up the problem with Tums or Rolaids. it's better to deal with the underlying causes, such as insufficient acid or an impaired mucous lining in your digestive tract.

THE NATURAL SOLUTION

It's always preferable to prevent problems from developing in the first place than to look for ways to remedy them.

Here is a List of Solutions:
• Avoid excessive refined sugar, caffeine and fried
  foods. These all have a negative impact on your
  digestion, leading to gas, impaired acid secretion
  and gastric inflammation, heart burn and pain.
• Chew food extra thoroughly. Adding saliva to
  food jumpstarts the digestive process.
• Use digestive enzymes. Research shows that
  people over age 40 are quite likely to have
  digestive enzyme deficiencies, particularly
  stomach acid. Take enzymes with each full meal
  to help your food fully digest.
• Don't drink too much liquid while eating. Excess
  fluid dilutes acid and renders the digestive
  system less efficient.
